![]() Easter Week in the Heartland of Mexico Limited to 15 participants Mexico at Easter Week is a photographer’s paradise. This is our fifth year of this 7-day workshop, which takes full advantage of the myriad of sights and delights of Holy Week in Colonial Mexico. On Holy Wednesday we photograph the “San Juan de Dios Procession”, children dressed as angels and Roman guards march through the streets of San Miguel. The next day we take a trip to Cadereyta to photograph “ The Procession of the 400 Christs”. Hundreds of Pilgrims march through the streets carrying statues and long poles adorned with Paper Mache. On Good Friday we travel first to Ixtla to photograph the re-enactment of Christ’s passion; locals dressed as Roman guards follow a cross bearing Christ through town and up a mountain where the crucifixion takes place. From there we go to the town of Queretaro to witness the most famous procession in Mexico, The Procession of Silence, 2000 hooded Penitentes march through the city carrying mesquite crosses. On Holy Saturday we photograph women of the town, dressed in black, who accompany the Virgin Mary through the streets at night carrying candles-one of the most beautiful events in San Miguel. “Little Angels” lead the way lighting the streets with candle light. We close the week in San Miguel de Allende with the “Blowing of the Judases”, when papier-mache replicas of hated people, including political figures, hang from ropes with fireworks wrapped around their waists. With Raul’s guidance and support, we photograph the amazing Holy Week events of these beautiful colonial mountain towns. Mornings are devoted to reviews and critiques of images made the previous day, followed by highly graphic lectures on digital camera settings, accurate metering and exposure, composition rules, creative use of light: mixing different light sources, creative flash techniques as well as editing, sequencing and story development. A key part of this workshop is learning how to use the key tools in Photoshop and the development of an efficient digital workflow.
