The Road Less Travelled

It was time for my twentieth journey to the Land of Fire and Ice.

As the Icelandic summer dictates, the Highlands were the order of the day. Most of the famous F-roads—Iceland's rugged mountain tracks—are open only from mid-June through mid-September, granting access to some of the country's most remote and spectacular regions, including Laki and Landmannalaugar.

These rough dirt roads, riddled with potholes, loose rocks, and countless unbridged river crossings, challenge even the most experienced drivers. Every mile is an adventure, making the journey itself as rewarding as the destination. For ten days, we travelled more than 1,700 miles along these roads less travelled, photographing the hidden wonders of my favourite country. 

Iceland in summer is a world transformed: endless fields of blooming lupines, lush green mountains stretching to the horizon, roaring glacial rivers, dramatic skies, and an astonishing diversity of birdlife create a landscape unlike anywhere else on Earth.

Beyond the Highlands, we explored the extraordinary Snæfellsnes Peninsula in the west and the awe-inspiring glaciers, waterfalls, and black sand beaches of Iceland's south coast. Together, they made this PhotoXperience an unforgettable journey through one of the most breathtaking landscapes on the planet.
